From Philosopedia
Matoub, Lounes (1956-1998)
Matoub, an activist in the Berber cultural movement, was co-founder in 1976 of the Algerian Human Rights League.
In 1994 Islamists kidnapped him and repeatedly threatened his life.
In 1998 he was murdered in Algeria “for his freethinking and his defiant mountain music."
“They’ll never kill him,” the singer’s sister was quoted as having said. “He has left his songs, which will speak for him.”
