Haught, James A. 2000 Years of Disbelief, Famous People with the Courage to Doubt (Amherst, New York: Prometheus Books, 1996). Haught, editor of the Charleston Gazette, wrote this anthology in which are listed noted disbelievers from the ancient to contemporary times. In addition to citing individuals who will be found listed in the present work, Haught includes a chapter on “Troubled Believers,” in which he cites Vice President Albert Gore Jr. and others. Some of these so-called “troubled” believers have been included in the present work.
