Sandvig, Bente (20th Century)

Sandvig is Secretary General of the Norwegian Humanist Association.

She has fought against a law which Parliament passed, one which removed the right of exemption from religious education and ensuring that religious education is preponderantly Lutheran. Holding that the Norwegian Parliament is thereby ignoring the international obligations of human rights conventions, Sandvig is one of the leaders of the Norwegian humanists who are demanding that the law be changed.

In 2001, Bente Sandvig was a participant in Madrid at a United Nations International Consultative Conference on School Education in Relation with Freedom of Religion and Belief, Tolerance and Non-discrimination. She represented the Oslo Coalition on Freedom of Religion or Belief delegation. {International Humanist News, April 1996}
