Raul Castro

Raúl Modesto Castro Ruz (3 June 1931 - )

Raúl and his older brother Fidel are the sons of Galician immigrant Angel Castro and Lina Ruz. They had another son and four daughters. He and Fidel both attended the Jesuit School of Colegio Dolores in Santiago and Colegio Belén in Havana.

The President of the Cuban Council of State, Castro assumed the duties on 31 July 2006 because of his brother's illness and, on 24 February 2008, was elected President.

Both Castro brothers are atheists and communists.
