Rachel Webb (19 - )
Webb, an activist humanist, lived for a time in Singapore, where she formed a lasting horror of racism and imperialism. Having played truant from school, she attributes any intelligence she has to having avoided this anti-educational experience.
Conned by relatives into going to Plymouth Brethren-type Sunday School and Sunday Services and school friends, she feels lasting damage over a struggle that a "good" god could cast people into Hell for all eternity.
During her teenage years, she spent time in Soho cafes reading Sartre, Camus, Kafka, and “left bank authors,” identifying as a beatnik. A Marxist and atheist, in 1968 she discovered R. D. Laing and his theories of “anti-psychiatry” but was disappointed upon meeting him and finding out the extent of his deviation towards Eastern mysticism.
Claiming she unwisely had a family, Webb has worked in local government, was a Councillor in London Borough of Lambeth during the 1980s, and claims that she “was done over in the "Sun and similar pornographic publications” as in "Looney Left Councillor in Looney Left Council".
Now semi-retired, Webb has driven a 40-tonne truck throughout Europe. She has had a lifelong obsession with Wagner and has been active in the Transport and General Workers Union, is a member of Socialist Appeal, Voluntary Euthanasia Society, and the British Humanist Association as well as the National Secular Society
