Pawelek, John (1942– )

A senior research scientist in dermatology and a lecturer in pharmacology at Yale University, Pawelek was raised a Lutheran but is an active member of the Unitarian Society of New Haven, Connecticut.

One of his inventions is a sunblock that doubles as a medication for vitiligo, a blotchy-skin condition that results from the failure of some melanin cells to produce pigment.

Pawelek has called himself β€œan optimistic agnostic.”
