Wilgus, Neal (1937 - )

Born in Jerome, Arizona, Wilgus grew up in nearby Clarkdale. A freethinker, he has a degree in English from Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff.

Moving to New Mexico where he lives in Corrales, he worked for the U.S. Forest Service in the early 1960s and has since worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Albuquerque for thirty years.

Wilgus has written the following:

  • The Illuminoids: Secret Societies and Political Paranoia (1978);
  • The Ozoids: Limericks in Oz (1986);
  • Seven By Seven: Interviews with American Science Fiction Writers of the West and Southwest (1986);
  • The March of Politics (2004);
  • Rhymed and Dangerous (2005);
  • Leakoids (2006);
  • Interview With Todd Moore (2006); and
  • Last Train to New Zealand and Other Poems (2007).

His interest in science fiction and fantasy led to contributions in publications such as Science Fiction Review, Outworlds, Space and Time, Star*Line, Cthulhu Calls, Interdimensional Journal, and NYCTALOPs.

His literary/political/philosophical views have appeared in The Match!, The Thought, New Libertarian, Freethought Perspective, Samisdat, Small Press Review, and Overtime.

His poems have appeared in Chiron Review, Edgz, Art:Mag, Lummox Journal, Nerve Cowboy, Abbey, Barbaric Yawp, St. Vitus Poetry Review, Blind Man's Rainbow, Mineshaft, Alpha Beat Soup, Birmingham Arts Journal, Dreamstreets, Zen Baby, Clark Street Review, The Magazine of Speculative Poetry; Interdimensional Journal; Dreams and Nightmares; Mythic Delirium; Backstreet Poets Quarterly; and Freethought Perspective.

His work has also appeared in Bard (Britain), Garbaj (Britain), Moodswing (Britain), Earth Love (Scotland), Labour of Love (Canada), Stardust Memories (Holland), Poets International (India), The Mozzie (Australia), Valley Micropress (New Zealand), and Spin (New Zealand). He also writes haiku, short fiction, reviews, satires, and what he calls Hoaxes.

Wilgus was married to the late educator/artist/poet Ramona Puhuyeava for almost thirty years. His son - Warren Asa Wilgus - is studying music/drama/communications. As for his philosophic outlook, Wilgus is eager to burn in Hell.
