John Riley Powell (1942 - 7 December 2005)

An Ohio-born member of the American Humanist Association (AHA), Powell was a signer of Humanist Manifesto III.

Powell was a leader of the Humanist Association of Tampa Bay. He worked in marketing and sales for GTE and received an education specialist degree from the University of South Florida.

An AHA member since 2000, he founded the Humanist Association of Tampa Bay and served as its president. He taught middle and high school, served as a leader in community groups, coached youth sports, and was active in his local Unitarian Universalist church.

Powell enjoyed golf, tennis, and camping. He is survived by his wife, Jeanie, and two children.
