Ikka Niiniluoto (12 March 1946 - )

A Finnish analytic philosopher and mathematician, Niiniluoto was born in Helsinki and has been a professor of philosophy at the University of Helsinki since 1981.

His work has been about the philosophy of science. In Truthlikeness (1987), he discusses verisimilitude or truth approximation. He also wrote Critical Scientific Realism (2002).

As rector of the university, he has complained about the university's ecclesiastic remnants of university ceremonies. He is obliged for the initiation of the academic year to lead the professors and other dignitaries to a nearby cathedral, where he laments having to endure a service of the prevalent Luthern creed. Such rituals are demonstrated against by local atheists and by supporters of disestablishmentarianism.
