Francisco Manoel de Nascimento
From Philosopedia
Nascimento, Francisco Manoel de [Filinto Elysio] (1734–1819)
Nascimento was a Portuguese poet, better known as Filinto Elysio.
He entered the Church but, having been the translator of Molière’s Tartuffe, was accused in 1778 of heresy. As a result, and when it was learned he had become a deist, he had to flee for his life from the Inquisition.
Nascimento wrote many poems and satires, and upon his death Portugal lost its foremost contemporary poet.
