Abauzit, Fiermin (1679—1774)

Abauzit was a French writer, descended from an Arabian family that settled in the south of France early in the ninth century. An acquaintance of Bayle, he was consulted by Voltaire and Rousseau. In an essay on the Apocalypse, Abauzit questioned the authority of that work. E. Harwood translated his Miscellanies into English in 1774.

Abauzit’s deistic views are expressed in his Réflexions impartiales sur les évangiles (1774).
