Ephraim Chambers
From Philosopedia
Chambers, Ephraim (c. 1680 - 15 May 1740)
Chambers originated the Cyclopaedia of Arts and Sciences, the first edition of which procured him admission to the Royal Society.
A French translation gave rise to Diderot and D’Alembert’s Encyclopédie.
He also edited the Literary Magazine, making known his infidel opinions. The encyclopedia was placed on the Roman Index, but Chambers was buried in the cloisters of Westminster Abbey.
