Chartier, Émile Auguste (1868 - 1951)

Using the pseudonym, Alain, Chartier wrote of his belief in an ethic of agnosticism based on a realistic acceptance of the limitations of human understanding.

His work, states Vivien Thweatt, contributed to a new secular humanism.

Alain wrote for La Nouvelle Revue Française.
