Carus, Karl Gustav (1789—1869) A German physiologist and pantheist, Carus taught comparative anatomy and wrote Psyche, a history of the development of what he called the human soul. Carus was a friend of Goethe, and he subscribed to the monistic or pantheistic philosophy. {BDF; RAT}
