Campion, William (19th Century)

A shoemaker by trade, Campion worked as a shopman in Carlile’s and was tried for selling Paine’s Age of Reason. After a spirited defense, he was found guilty and was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment. In prison he edited, in conjunction with J. Clarke, R. Hassell, and T. R. Perre, the Newgate Monthly Magazine.
