Berger, a cultural anthropologist, was cited by the Freedom from Religion Foundation as its “1993 Freethinker of the Year.”

Prof. Berger describes himself as “an unbelieving Jew teaching in a Catholic college" who formerly taught at St. Joseph’s in Rensselaer, Indiana.

He co-founded GIDEANS International (God Is Definitely Erroneous And Not Safe) as well as UNGOD (Unholy Nihilists for Godlessness Over Deism).
