Alan Carr (20th Century)

Carr is a stand-up comedian in Britain, one who in 2005 was named Best North Comedian by the BBC,

Openly gay, he is brother to fellow comedian Jimmy Carr and the son of professional footballer and former Northampton Town Manager Graham Carr.

For the EuroPride 2006 programme, the celebrity performers at the star-studded Albert Hall show were asked: "Gay rights worldwide - what would do the most good?" His response,

  • Banning religion - I hate it! Absolutely hate it. It scares me that there are people who have to read in a book they have to love thy neighbour and treat everyone as their brother - I thought it was a given.
